Litheum RUNNERS

Runners Run the Network

Nodes which participate in Litheum’s consensus are referred to as Runners.

What are Litheum Runners?

Litheum is built on the simple principle that every remote procedure call (RPC) needed by a Blockchain must be incentivized. Similar to Miners on a PoW chain or Validators on a PoS chain, Runners are rewarded for the services they provide.

Proof of Performance allows every participant to be incentivized in the blockchain network. By incentivizing everyone, not only is the production of consensus fairer, but it allows Litheum to scale to the entire world.

Block Runners

Block Runners will need significant computation, memory, and bandwidth resources. A big goal for us during our Testnet phase is to learn what bottlenecks Block Runners will run into.

In the very long term, we envision specialty hardware being used to process signatures as quickly as possible or even small runners acting as single nodes, with different machines for different purposes such as network frontend, signature verification, UTXO set validation, and block production/synchronization.

Transaction Runners

We believe that Litheum is the most robust Blockchain against DOS attacks because Litheum’s Proof of Performance consensus actually rewards nodes that do this work. Transactions Runners are on the front line guarding Block Production from HTTP spam.

Transactions Runners bundle Transactions into Miniblocks which are then sent to Block Runners. If you’ve got experience with CDNs, DOS protection, or dynamic firewalls, this might be a great choice for you. During testnet is a great time to start learning.

Data Runners

One of the most innovative parts of Litheum’s Proof of Performance consensus is its ability to incentivize the provision of arbitrary RPCs for reading data from the chain. Data Runners are tasked with this important work.

One advantage of being a Data Runner or a Transaction Runner is that this kind of work can be done with even just modest hardware. Lucky Runners help measure and reward Data Runner’s contribution to the network.
