Litheum’s Latest Technological Advancements: Enhancing Performance and Scalability
Hello Friends,
We’re excited to share another round of advancements from our engineering team that highlight both our ongoing commitment to innovation and our dedication to maintaining the highest technical standards. These updates showcase the intricate work being done behind the scenes to make Litheum more robust, scalable, and ready to handle the demands of the real Web3.
The Litheum Spammer: A New Transaction Generator for DevOps
One of the latest tools in our development arsenal is the Litheum Spammer, a transaction generator designed to enhance the efficiency of our DevOps processes. By utilizing LCLI (Litheum Command Line Interface), we’ve been able to leverage the simplicity and flexibility of Python to create a new Spammer. This tool is crucial for us as it allows real time modifications of node behavior during operation, providing unparalleled flexibility during the development of LitheumCore.
This capability is not just a short-term win; it’s a strategic tool for the future. The Spammer will be instrumental in benchmarking global tests of LitheumCore by simulating networks running on hundreds or even thousands of nodes worldwide. Such scalability testing is key to ensuring that Litheum remains robust and reliable as we continue to grow.
ForkableStateManager Re-Architecture: Seamless EVM Integration
Another critical advancement is the re-architecture of the ForkableStateManager, an essential component of LitheumCore. This system plays a vital role in the consensus process, allowing Litheum to quickly validate blocks in potential forks and switch to the longest branch when necessary. Previously, integrating this system with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) posed significant challenges due to the inherent complexity of rolling back transactions within a VM.
However, our team has successfully re-architected the ForkableStateManager to seamlessly integrate with REVM, the Rust-based EVM implementation. This new architecture maintains the complexity of our consensus mechanism without compromising performance, ensuring that block validation on forks remains efficient and reliable.
EVM Test and DevOps Infrastructure: Comprehensive Code Coverage
Integrating REVM into Litheum’s consensus is a monumental change, affecting LitheumCore across numerous components. Given the breadth of this integration, it’s crucial that our development team can thoroughly test every line of code associated with EVM transactions. To support this, we’ve made significant enhancements to our testing infrastructure.
New tooling has been added to our test bench, enabling us to compile Solidity contracts and deploy them within Litheum transactions in both development and testing environments. This ensures that our continuous integration pipelines thoroughly exercise all relevant code paths, maintaining the high quality and reliability of LitheumCore.
